Mike Palladinetti, Terry White, Denis Sirringhaus and Kate Elias spent the last weeks of the summer this year at the Independence Surgery Clinic in Gaborone, Botswana, consulting as a part of the student-run Wharton Healthcare International Volunteer Project (WHIVP).
First opened in 1865, The Original Old Bookbinders is a seafood restaurant located in Old City. After a three year hiatus in 2001, the restaurant was renovated and reopened in 2004, maintaining the spirit of the original Bookbinders while upgrading all of the interior furniture and equipment.
Given the current state of the U.S. Airline industry - with four of the six major airlines in bankruptcy, losses exceeding $35 billion over the last 4 years, an increase in long term debt of $30 billion - few Wharton students are considering a career in the industry. However, the presentation this past Tuesday by Nigel Page, the Senior Vice President of Commercial North American Operations for Emirates Airlines, might convince some students otherwise.
Wharton's year of community service events debuted with Into the Streets on October 1st, a crisp, sunny early Autumn Saturday. About 100 volunteers comprised of MBAs, partners, friends, siblings, and even a couple of rogue undergrads came out to give a few hours at worthy volunteer sites across Philadelphia in this annual Wharton tradition.
