The first week I was here, I left my keys in my room and locked myself out at 11:30PM. None of my roommates was home, and for some reason the front desk didn’t have a lockout key. I ended up having to go through a neighbor’s window which was to say the least, not very fun. This all could have been avoided if my door had the Bogo 2000 Door Lock (http://www.bogotech.com/) on it. The Bogo 2000 looks like a regular door handle except that there is no place to use a key. Why? Because the lock is operated by your fingerprints as well as the fingerprints of up to 40 other people. All it takes is half a second for the system to recognize your fingerprint and let you in. For around $590, you never have to worry about losing or forgetting your keys again.

Create a wireless home base with Intel

Intel has a new product line called the Wireless Series (http://www.intel.com/wireless_series/). You buy a base station for about $60 that hooks in to your computers USB port and allows you to use up to 8 wireless devices off of the one base unit. Currently, Intel is producing a keyboard ($79.99), a mouse ($59.99), and a game controller ($64.99).

Affordable mini-PDA

The new Echo from Oregon Scientific (http://www.oregonscientific.com/pd293.html) is a cheap and cool personal digital assistant. Its color screen can display your memos, phone numbers, calendar, and to-do list. The cool part about it is that it’s the size of a credit card and less than an inch thick. It’s small enough to fit in your shirt or binder pocket. It’s also pretty cheap in comparison to other PDAs out there, only $79.99.

Benwin speakers -- thin yet powerful

Benwin is known for making speakers that sound great and have an innovative look to them. The GX-6 series ($149.99) is their newest series. The base unit has a sleek charcoal look but nothing too extraordinary. The actual speakers are what make this package worthwhile. The sound quality is surprisingly good considering these speakers are flat and are not even as thick at your thumb. A good product to consider when planning the tight cubbyholes considered workspaces in our rooms. Check them out at (http://www.benwin.com/49gx6spec.htm).
