With a first year – second year bet riding on the outcome, Grinberg and Grossberg achieved their historic victory with an impressive display of offensive firepower in the final. Doug "Big Bones are Healthy Bones" Grossberg drew first blood as he and his partner reeled off eight straight points against the floundering second years. Music changes, shoulder massages and multiple head bands did not change the flow of the game. Brasch finally scored a nice double point hit to end the white-wash, but his effort came too late. To a rising chorus of first year chants, the G-bergs closed out their win with a masterful blend of sinks and hits and took home the coveted "Pong 1st" ceramic cup, beer pong's answer to the Lombardi Trophy.
After the traditional net-cutting ceremony, Grinberg cited hours in the gym, a spring break spent building tolerance, and his leadership class as the foundations of the victory. He thanked Lew Platt and Beth Kaplan for their leadership lessons and said that a call the night before from Charlotte Beers had left him "really stoked" for not only beer pong but also leading organizational change. He also gave mad props to his competitors stating, "It was a privilege to share the playing field with such high caliber athletes." Grossberg was overcome with emotion but did manage to give a shout-out to all of his homeys in the bing.
In post-tournament, big money play, the second and third place first year teams beat their second year counterparts netting the first years enough cash for two Au Bon Pain sandwiches and a one page Reprographics fax. All participants look forward to utilizing their BPONG credit to waive out of global strategic management classes.
